Lubavitch House at Penn / JHP

Penn Birthright Israel Trips

Hike up Masada, ride a camel and float in the dead sea. Explore the mysticsm of Tzefat and the alleys of Jerusalem, the nightlife of Tel Aviv and the hills of the Golan Heights. Create memeories that will last a lifetime on Taglit-Birthright Israel: Lubavitch House at Penn / Jewish Heritage Programs Trip!

We are running 2 trips this summer, read below to click the appropirate link for your trip!

We encourage you to register and (even pre-register) early. Even if you are unsure if you can go this summer, you should still apply because, once the application window closes you will not be able to join the trip even if your other plans shift, on the other hand, if you decide not to go you can cancel without penalty very late into the game (usually late March). Additionally, it might give you priority in the next season.

The following is the timeline for the Summer 2012 season:

Tuesday, February 14th at 12 Noon EST: Pre-registration for those who were waitlisted previously.

Wednesday, February 15th at 10 AM EST: General registration opens.

Registration will close as determined by Birthright, but last season it only remained open for about a week.

There are two trip options from Chabad at UPenn, read carefully and click the correct link.

Be sure to send your $250 refundable deposit as soon as possible after registration, you will not be considered unless the deposit is received.

Cancellation deadline for May Trips is: March 28, 2012

To get on our priority list, participate in this program

FAQs:

• When is the trip?

We have 2 trips this summer.  The departure dates are before commencment and a second trip after commencment.

• What if I have other plans this summer that might conflict with this trip? What if I'm unsure about my summer plans as of yet?

We recommend that you register and pay the refundable deposit. If your plans change you will be able to go on the trip. If they don't change, you can cancel with no-pentalty at all and receive your deposit back (as long as you cancel before March 28, 2012). It will not affect your eligablity for the next season under any provider. However, if you do not register before registration closes, we will not be able to get you on to the trip.

• What are the differences between the two trips?

The trips will be almost identical. We have reached out to two providers in order to be able to maximize our spots. The other difference will be that there will be more seniors on the later trip.

• Is this a religious trip?

The trip is observant of Kosher diatary laws and Shabbat as any other Taglit-birthright provider is. What you choose to do personally is your business. Each of our trips are staffed with a Jewish scholar, usually in the form of a Rabbi or other Jewishly educated person who is avialable to answer any question with more insight. So you are guranteed to benefit from both the education and the fun. There are no Tzitzit attached.

• If have not been involved Jewishly, will I be able to get on the trip?

Acceptance is not based on involvment in any particular organization. In fact the more involved people are the less likley they are to be eligable. You have as good as a chance as the next person.

• Can I bring my friend from another school?

Yes, you can have them sign up with us. As with Penn students themselves, there is no guarantee that they will get accepted. Please have them indicate in their application that they want to go with person x on the Penn Trip.
